Job Summary

We are seeking a hardworking and detail-oriented Landscape Laborer/Gardener to join our landscaping team. This role involves a variety of responsibilities related to the installation, care, and maintenance of landscapes. You will play a key part in creating and maintaining beautiful, functional, and safe outdoor environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, proactive, and eager to grow their skills in landscape aesthetics and plant care. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is a willingness to learn and collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

Gardening and Plant Care

• Perform general lawn and garden maintenance tasks, including mowing, weeding, pruning, trimming, and fertilizing.
• Learn and begin practicing aesthetic and safety pruning of trees, shrubs, and plants.
• Monitor the health of all plants and green spaces, removing weeds and dead or dying plants as needed.
• Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments as directed.

Installation and Construction

• Assist in the installation of landscape features such as trees, shrubs, flowers, sod, and decorative elements.
• Support the construction of hardscape features including patios, walkways, retaining walls, and pavers.
• Help with soil preparation and other site work to support planting and construction projects.

Irrigation and Equipment

• Aid in the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Operate landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment) safely and efficiently.

Teamwork and Site Management

• Collaborate with crew members to complete landscaping projects on time and according to specifications.
• Supervise and assist in minor landscape repairs as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and tools.
• Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.

Communication and Growth

• Must be able to communicate effectively in Spanish and demonstrate a willingness to learn basic English communication skills.
• Show initiative in learning new skills and improving knowledge of landscaping techniques and aesthetics.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

• Ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., bags of mulch, plants).
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
• Primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Potential exposure to noise from equipment and machinery.
• May work near moving equipment and vehicles.
• Hearing: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Speaking: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job, such as clearly communicating with multiple personnel.
• Vision: Normal visual acuity.
• Lifting to 50 lbs.
• Pushing up to 50 lbs.
• Other: Must be able to prioritize; have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving ability.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification

Experience

• Gardening: 1 year (Required)
• License/Certification: Driver's License (preferred not required)
